Joshua Tree March 2022

Stark Landscapes

With a wide variety of plants and animals, Joshua Tree National Park encompasses more than 1,242 square miles – slightly larger than the state of Rhode Island. The park includes parts of two deserts, the higher Mojave Desert and the lower Colorado Desert. It sports rugged rock formations and stark desert landscapes as well as forests of giant branching yuccas known as Joshua trees, fan palm oases, and seasonal gardens of cholla and ocotillo cacti.

The iconic Joshua Trees grow only between 1,300 and 5,900 feet in elevation and can live for hundreds of years. They do not bloom every year as they need rainfall at the proper time and a winter freeze before they bloom.

Joshua Tree National Park offers a myriad of photographic opportunities. This photo essay offers only a small glimpse into the wonders of Joshua Tree National Park.
